The Iconic Mad Magazines to Not Be Sold at News Stands Anymore
It’s the end of an era… well no, not really. It is the end however for Mad Magazines at news stands.
The iconic magazine is leaving news stands according to The Associated Press.
The long-running satirical publication MAD magazine will be leaving newsstands this fall but will still be available in comic shops and through mail to subscribers.
Unfortunately, after the fall issue, the magazine will only be reprinting previously published material and new material will come in special editions at the end of the year.
Mad Magazine has been running for 67 years.
DC, the division of Warner Brothers that publishes the magazine, said MAD will pull from nostalgic cartoons and parodies published over the last several decades and that it would still publish MAD special collections.
“Weird Al” Yankovic, who was once a guest editor, remarked on Twitter, “It’s pretty much the reason I turned out weird.”
His full tweet reads, “am profoundly sad to hear that after 67 years, MAD Magazine is ceasing publication. I can’t begin to describe the impact it had on me as a young kid – it’s pretty much the reason I turned out weird. Goodbye to one of the all-time greatest American institutions. #ThanksMAD”
