In retaliation against the new tariffs imposed by the U.S., Canada has also imposed its own trade barriers.

The country announced retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel, aluminum, and other products.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said this week that the country will retaliate against new U.S. tariffs by imposing its own trade barriers.

Freeland said Canada plans to slap dollar-for-dollar tariffs on the U.S. and that the Nafta partner’s proposed import taxes would be not only on steel and aluminum, but also on whiskey, orange juice and other food products.

Freeland said that the retaliatory tariffs would cover CA$16.6 billion in imports.

Freeland stated, “It is entirely inappropriate to view any trade with Canada as a threat to the United States’ national security.”

The EU has also said it would introduce countermeasures as well as Mexico.
