Steven Spielberg Will Not Direct Fifth Indiana Jones Movie
Many fans may be disappointed to learn that the fifth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise will not be directed by Steven Spielberg.
According to a report from Variety, Steven Spielberg will not be directing the film and director James Mangold appears to be in talks to take the helm.
Since the first Indiana Jones film, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, Spielberg had been the director of them all. While he won’t be directing, he is still expected to remain involved as a hands-on producer.
Star Harrison Ford who played the lead role in the films is still attached to the project thankfully.
According to Variety, who cited sources, Spielberg’s decision to exit the project as a director was actually quite noble. Spielbeg wanted to pass the torch to a new generation who could bring their perspective to the iconic hero’s story.
Named “Indy 5,” the movie was first announced by Disney in 2016, but the studio release has been delayed three times.
The new expected release date is set for July 9, 2021.
