Facebook is Working on Smart Glasses With This Company
Social media giant Facebook is working to develop Ray-Ban smart glasses according to sources who spoke to CNBC.
The company has partnered up with Luxottica to develop the augmented-reality glasses which have the code-name ‘Orion.’
According to the sources, the glasses are designed to replace smart phones and Facebook is hoping a partnership with Luxottica will result in the glasses reaching consumers by 2023, 2024 or as late as 2025.
CNBC has previously reported that Facebook is also developing an artificial intelligence voice assistant that would serve as a user input for the glasses.
Luxottica is the parent company of Ray-Ban, Oakley and other sunglasses brands. Previously the company has partnered with Google in 2014 to design, develop and distribute the Google Glass device.
