The 2019 Golden Globes this weekend proved that Netflix has come swinging with its original content.

The streaming giant won five awards on Sunday with “The Kominsky Method” and “Roma” each winning more than one award. Shares of Netflix were exploding as Wall Street digested the wins.

No other networking or streaming service has ever won three wins in television and two in film according to Deadline.

Netflix won a best foreign film and a directing award for “Roma,” Alfonso Cuarón’s black-and-white meditation on his childhood growing up in Mexico City.

“The Kominsky Method” won the best comedy prize and best actor in a TV comedy for Michael Douglas. Richard Madden won the best actor in a TV drama in Netflix’s British “Bodyguard” series.

Writer, producer and composer Chuckk Lorre ended his thank you speech by saying “Netflix, Netflix, Netflix.”

It was in an earnings call in October, that chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, told analysts, “When we invest in an original show, we find, we’re having a better payback in terms of people watching and appreciating Netflix and valuing their subscription.”

According to Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson, Netflix will beat Wall Street expectations for U.S. streaming-subscriber additions for the fourth quarter.
