eBay is Alleging Amazon of This ‘unlawful’ Thing
eBay isn’t too thrilled with Amazon right now. The auction site has alleged that Amazon is using ‘unlawful’ merchant poaching.
According to eBay, Amazon is using eBay’s seller message feature to sway merchants over to Amazon.
eBay has said that it found hundreds of messages in which Amazon employees found ways to go around the company’s monitoring of content.
An Amazon spokesperson told CNBC that Amazon is now “conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations.”
eBay believes this has been going on for years now and has issued a cease-and-desist letter this week.
“We have uncovered an unlawful and troubling scheme on the part of Amazon to solicit eBay sellers to move to Amazon’s platform,” eBay said in a statement. “We have demanded that Amazon end its unlawful activity and we will take the appropriate steps, as needed, to protect eBay.”
eBay says what Amazon has done violates the California Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act.
