Over 900 Coins Were Found In This Sea Turtle’s Stomach
Here’s a story you don’t hear everyday. An unfortunate sea turtle in Asia has been swallowing items thrown into his pond for years. She has swallowed so many things that it actually limited her ability to swim.
The 25-year old sea turtle named Omsin, had 915 coins removed from her stomach by Thai veterinarians. All the objects and coins inside her weighed in at 11 lbs. She herself weighs 130 lbs.
Omsin is a green sea turtle that lives at a conservation center in Sriracha, Chonburi, east of the Thai capital of Bangkok.
The seven hour long surgery to remove the items, is believed to be the world’s first such surgery.
“We think it will take about a month to ensure she will fully recover,” said Nantarika Chansue, of Chulalongkorn University’s veterinary science faculty.
Chansue also believes the turtle will need six more months of physical therapy.
