Ex-Subway Spokesperson Jared Fogle Is Suing His Victim’s Parents

Jared Fogle, who once pitched for Subway about how much weight he lost by eating their sandwiches, is now in prison for receiving and distributing hundreds of pornographic images of children.

He was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison for having roughly 500 videos that were recorded by Russell Taylor, who was hired by Fogle to run the Jared Foundation. The Jared Foundation was described as a “child outreach” organization dedicated to the welfare of children struggling with obesity.

Prosecutors had said Taylor used a camera hidden in a clock radio to record them dressing and undressing and then passed some or all of them along to Fogle. Taylor is currently serving a 27 year prison sentence after pleading guilty last year.

One of the victims, known as Jane Doe in court, has sued Fogle, Taylor, and Taylor’s wife for $150,000.

Fogle has filed his own complaint against the parents in the U.S. District Court in Indianapolis and claims it was the parents, and not he, who damaged the child.

According to Fogle, the now-divorced parents of the girl, “maintained a hateful and abusive relationship toward each other,” including fighting, arguing and getting drunk, which “caused Jane Doe to suffer from emotional distress, anxiety, and major depression.”

Fogle has alleged in his complaint that it was the pair’s behavior that caused the girl to engage in “substance abuse, self-mutilation, and suicidal ideation.”

While his lawsuit may seem surprising, its filing was necessary in order for Fogle to use the girl’s parents in his defense. In the original lawsuit filed against Fogle by Jane Doe, the parents are not plaintiffs.
