U.S Defense Department seeking to take $3.8 Billion from Military’s Budget to Fund Mexico Border Wall
The push by U.S President Donald Trump to build Mexico border wall seems to be on course as the U.S defense Department requested to divert $3.8 billion from Military’s budget to fund building of the Mexico border wall.
Congress acknowledged having received the request asking them to adjust around $3.8 billion from funds allocated to the National Guard and weapons programs.
Members of the Democratic Party in the congress who opposed President’s Trump Mexico border wall project from the onset termed the latest move as dangerous and misguided.
“President Trump is once again disrespecting the separation of powers and endangering our security by raiding military resources to pay for his wasteful border wall,” said Democratic Representatives Nita Lowey.
The move received a backlash from both parties as Republican Mac Thornberr, termed the move by defense department as one which goes astray with Congress’s constitutional authority.
“The transfer of funds is based on what the law allows and that the items to be funded are a higher priority than the items from which the funds were transferred,” said Robert Salesses, deputy assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense integration.
