Tesla Had Some Big News About Its Solar Roof Tiles
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla will begin taking orders for its solar roof tiles next month.
In a series of tweets on Friday, Musk confirmed the news.
It has been months since Tesla unveiled the company’s solar roof shingles last October but information hasn’t been too forthcoming regarding the pricing and where the tiles will first become available.
The company’s website has said that the production of the roof tiles was slated to start in mid 2017.
The roof tiles will come in four styles: terra cotta, slate, textured glass and smooth glass, Tesla said and according to the company, the solar roof will last longer and cost less than a traditional tile roof.
The company plans to integrate the solar roof product with its existing stationary energy storage business and its electric cars.
To support the production of solar roof tiles, Tesla announced a solar cell manufacturing partnership with Panasonic where production is scheduled to begin in Buffalo, NY this year.
