An Adidas Shoe Made Almost Completely By Robots
We know robots are becoming more of the norm, especially in manufacturing and assembling, but now we can even see it in sneaker ware.
Adidas’ robotic shoe manufacturing plant in Germany has made its first shoe almost entirely by robots last week.
Adidas has had a long-term plan to add robot-staffed, custom shoe making factories. They’re called Speed Factories, and the shoe giant wants to add them to its global supply chain.
Adidas plans to finish only 500 prototypes of the shoe made at its Germany plant. The company is planning on opening a second robot-staffed manufacturing operation in Atlanta in 2017, and the number of robot-built shoes is set to increase then. The Atlanta factory is expected create 160 new jobs when it opens.
According to the company’s projections, the new Atlanta factory will produce 50,000 pairs of shoes in the second half of next year.
This is still very small and not even 1% of the giant’s supply.
