YouTuber Logan Paul is Under Fire for Filming Dead Body in Suicide Forest

Despite apologizing for his actions, many are still very pissed off at YouTube star Logan Paul.

The 22 year old posted a video onto his YouTube channel entitled, “We saw a dead body in the Japanese Suicide Forest.” The video has since been deleted, but not before many saw it and were quick to react on how distasteful the video was.

According to the New York Times, the video had over 6 million views in the 24 hours after it was published.

Many believe Paul’s use of the video was for comic purposes. In the video, Paul and his group arrive to camp at Japan’s famed suicide forest, officially known as Aokigahara. The group went of trail and found a suicide victim hanging from a tree.

While the group ventured near the body, Paul’s reaction and behavior has been condemned as some think he was laughing at the deceased. The victim’s face had been blurred out but the body was visible. In the video Paul says that suicide is “not the answer” but then jokes to a person off-camera, “what, you’ve never seen a dead guy before?”

Paul said that it was “a moment in YouTube history because I’m pretty sure this has never hopefully happened to anyone on YouTube ever.”

YouTube released an official statement on Tuesday and said the video violated its Community Guideline policies and shared condolences to the family of the person who appeared in the video. “YouTube prohibits violent or gory content posted in a shocking, sensational or disrespectful manner. If a video is graphic, it can only remain on the site when supported by appropriate educational or documentary information and in some cases it will be age-gated.”

Paul said he regrets posting the video and remarked, “There’s a lot of things I should’ve done differently, but I didn’t. And for that, from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry.”

Paul has nearly 4 million followers on Twitter and over 15 million subscribers on his YouTube.
