This Big Soccer Star Just Got Suspended
Longtime U.S. women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo, 35, has been suspended for six months and her contract was also terminated. The move came after Solo called the Swedish national team “cowards” following a quarterfinal loss at the Rio Olympics.
A clip emerged, published by TMZ Sports on Tuesday, that reveals Solo teary-eyed and upset as she tells her husband Jerramy Stevens (former NFL player) about the suspension and termination.
“Six months suspension, no pay, terminated contract,” she tells him. He hugs her as she says “Effective immediately.”
“How can they do both?” Stevens asked.
“Seventeen [expletive] years, and it’s over!” Solo shouts. This is likely the end of the 35 year old’s soccer career.
In her career, she has amassed two Olympic gold medals, a Women’s World Cup trophy, a World Cup final lost on penalties, and Golden Glove awards at both those tournaments.
The federation’s decision to suspend her comes after Solo’s series of public outburts and run-ins wth the law.
