People Watched in Horror as Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral Burned
The world was in shock on Monday after one of the most famous churches, if not most famous church, in the world, caught fire.
The Notre Dame in Paris had a massive fire go through it on Monday, with the roof collapsing as onlookers watched in horror. The moment the church’s spire fell, many people on the street couldn’t help but scream.
This is a church steeped in history that has been around for 800 or so years. Watching it burn for eight hours was hard for people all over the world to witness.
Even President Trump immediately took to Twitter when he heard of the fire and tweeted, “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!”
According to a French fire official, the church had been saved fortunately from “total destruction.”
Also 16 religious statues were removed from the cathedral for cleaning on Thursday, for the first time in over a century.
“The worst has been avoided, but the battle isn’t fully won yet,” French President Emmanuel Macron said outside the cathedral.
“We will rebuild the cathedral together,” Macron said. He added that France will start an international fundraising campaign to raise money for the renovations.
The Vatican stated, “The Holy See received the news of the terrible fire … with shock and sadness. We would like to express our closeness to the French and parisian people and guarantee our prayers for the firefighters and all of those facing this dramatic situation.”
