Nike Says it is Not Endorsing the Controversial Lil Nas X Satan Blood Shoe

This week rapper Lil Nas X has released a line of shoes that contain a drop of human blood and undoubtedly they have caused quite a stir of controversy over the Palm Sunday weekend.

The “Old Town Road” artist collaborated with streetwear company MSCHF on the pentagram-sporting shoes that went on sale today. Only 666 pairs were available and sold out under a minute for $1,018 a pair.

The sneakers are modified Nike Air Max 97’s that are decorated with a pentagram pendant and reference a verse in the Bible about Satan’s fall from heaven. Luke 10:18 for those who aren’t familiar. It goes: So He told them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

While the black and red sneakers already may sound a little scary , the soles of the shoes are also said to contain a drop of human blood that were drawn from members of the MSCHF team.

Each shoe’s air bubble sole contains 60 cubic centimeters, or 2.03 fluid ounces, of red ink and “one drop” of human blood, according to MSCHF. The group said “We love to sacrifice for our art.”

Critics were furious with both Lil Nas X and Nike for the sneaker launch.

One user on Twitter, Pastor Mark Burns wrote, “These #SatanShoes by #Nike & #LilNasX with 666 and a drop of human blood in the sole is a reason why we Christians must be prayed up ready to battle in the spirit with the Voice of the Holy Spirit. This is evil & heresy and I pray that Christians rise up against this.”

Twitter user @AK4WA wrote, “Dear @Nike, This isn’t hard. When someone asks you if they can make “Satan Shoes” under your brand… YOU SAY NO.”

Nike quickly announced that the company did not endorse them.

In an emailed statement to CNN, Nike said it was not involved in creating the modified sneakers. “We do not have a relationship with Lil Nas or MSCHF,” the company said. “Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”

Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, responded to the backlash and said, “I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the shit y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay. So i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”
