Ed Sheeran Sued Over Allegedly Copying “Let’s Get It On”

A-list English pop star Ed Sheeran is being sued by the co-writer’s family of Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit song, “Let’s Get It On” for having a hit track that sounds very reminiscent.

The co-writer’s relatives are pursuing legal action against Sheeran claiming that his song, “Thinking Out Loud” is too similar to “Let’s Get It On.”

Ed Townsend was the co-writer of the song but he passed away in 2003. His family and their lawyers however, are now ruffled at how similar the two songs allegedly sound.

According to the famiy and lawyers, “the Defendants copied the heart of ‘Let’s’ and repeated it continuously throughout ‘Thinking,’” adding that, “the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of ‘Thinking’ are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of ‘Let’s.’”

They are pushing for the case to go to trial and be determined by a jury, which will surely happen if both parties can’t come to an amicable agreement.

25 year old Grammy winning Sheeran has not yet commented publicly.
