Did Ed Sheeran Quit Twitter Over His Game of Thrones Cameo?

When Game of Thrones made it anticipated season 7 premiere, many were shocked to see that Ed Sheeran was in the episode as a Lannister soldier.

Despite only having two lines, fans of the show were less than enthused to see his cameo appearance. All Sheeran said was, “It’s a new one,” in reference to a song that Arya had heard him singing and then “Worst place in the world,” in regards to King’s landing.

The reason for his cameo was pretty sweet actually, as Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark is a big fan of him and David Benioff wanted to make it happen.

The backlash was pretty horrific and many fans were off put by his cameo. Shortly after the premiere, Sheeran quit his Twitter and many wondered if it was because of the backlash.

Sheeran denied this and said that he “was always intending to come off Twitter.” He defended his role on the show and said, “I am in Game of Thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It’s clearly f***in’ awesome.”

On Instagram, Sheeran wrote, “I came off Twitter coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my Game of Thrones cameo.”

He reactivated his Twitter than 24 hours later though. Not too long ago Sheeran had admitted that he was limiting his time on Twitter due to the amount of online hate that was directed at him.
