Disney Disappoints Marvel Fans with ‘Black Widow’ Delay
The movie industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and many movies have had production halted and have faced delays hitting the theaters.
The latest movie to be delayed is Marvel’s “Black Widow” with Disney announcing recently that the highly anticipated superhero film starring Scarlett Johansson is being pushed back to May 7, 2021. The film was set to hit theaters on November 6.
The movie had originally been expected to be released on May 1st but was rescheduled in March because of coronavirus.
Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Eternals” and “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” have also been delayed.
“Eternals,” which was set to hit movie theaters on February 12, 2021, will now be shown starting on November 5, 2021 and “Shang Chi” is moving from May 7, 2021 to July 9, 2021.
Disney has also postponed Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” a full year.
“Eternals delayed to Nov 5, 2021. Marvel made the right & responsible decision. There’s a pandemic. Nothing is more important than health & lives. I can’t tell ppl to go to a movie theater until I feel safe going to one. Take care of yourselves. I promise it’ll be worth the wait,” wrote “Eternals” star Kumail Nanjiani on Twitter.
“We’ve got a pretty robust slate through 2021,” said Disney’s chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, as reported by Deadline. “We hope theaters are open, and we hope our films are films that for the people who choose to go to movie theaters, the experience of going to a theater is very different from what you would have at home.”
