Could Jesse Williams Be Fired From “Grey’s Anatomy”?

Jessie Williams is a long standing actor on ABC’s hit show, “Grey’s Anatomy.” He’s also the newest winner of the 2016 BET Awards Humanitarian award. In his acceptance speech, he took time to publicly talk about racial inequalties and police brutality.

This speech has sparked fire from some people and has even led to a Change.com petition that calls for the actor to be fired from Shonda Rhimes’ series. Rhimes is the big name behind “Grey’s Anatomy” and rumors are she had a big part in why Patrick Dempsey’s character died on the show last April.

If anybody has the power to get rid of someone from the show, it’s Rhimes.

According to the Change.com petition created by a user Erin Smith, “Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude.”

Smith also asked, “Why was Burke’s character fired from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ after his inappropriate homophobic slur, but nothing for Jesse Williams? Why the one-way street? Why the support for a hater? Why the hypocrisy? #AllLivesMatter All humans bleed the same color. #EqualConsequences4RacistBehavior.”

“Grey’s” creator Shonda Rhimes tweeted in support of Williams, letting people know that she’s the boss. She simply said, “Um, people? Boo don’t need a petition. #shondalandrules.”

So there you have it. I don’t think Williams has anything to worry about.
