Chef Anthony Bourdain Found Dead By Suicide
World celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was found dead on Friday at the age of 61.
The chef, who has spoken in the past about his daughter being someone he lived for, had hung himself in his hotel room in France.
Bourdain had told People he felt “some responsibility” to try and live for his daughter Ariane who is now 11 years old.
“I also do feel I have things to live for,” Bourdain admitted.
The food writer and “Parts Unknown” star had revealed he had contemplated suicide several times. He told People, “There have been times, honestly, in my life that I figured, ‘I’ve had a good run — why not just do this stupid thing, this selfish thing… jump off a cliff into water of indeterminate depth.”
He also said, “In retrospect, I don’t know that I would do that today — now that I’m a dad or reasonably happy.”
“I’ve tried. I just think I’m just too nervous, neurotic, driven,” he said about retiring. “I would have had a different answer a few years ago. I might have deluded myself into thinking that I’d be happy in a hammock or gardening. But no, I’m quite sure I can’t.”
The chef had been in France working on an episode when he committed suicide.
