Many people who woke up today and saw the headlines may have for a moment thought that Eddie Murphy passed away.

However it was Charlie Murphy, his older brother, who passed away at the age of 57 from leukemia on Wednesday morning. The men look very similar to each other and both have had success in comedy.

Murphy was a successful standup comedian who co-starred on the Chapelle Show in some of the most memorable skits including the one where he partied it up with Prince and Rick James.

The comedian’s manager said that he died in a NYC hospital and had been going through chemotherapy.

Murphy is known for co-writing some of his younger brother’s films such as “Norbit” and “Vampire in Brooklyn.” He also co-starred in The Boondocks and Black Jesus.
