Canada Ceases to Provide Security to Prince Harry and Meghan

Canadian government has announced henceforth it won’t be providing security to the royal couple Harry and Meghan Markle. Canada says since the couple no longer works for British royal family means they are no longer entitled to state security.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Canada’s federal Office of the Minister of Public Safety.

As the Duke and Duchess are currently recognized as Internationally Protected Persons, Canada has an obligation to provide security assistance on an as-needed basis. The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status,” said the Canadian government.

Since November, the royal couple embarked on six week long holiday in Canada. Since their arrival in the country, the Royal Canadian Mounted police have been collaborating with the London’s metropolitan police to provide Duke and Duchess of Sussex with security.

Earlier last month the royal couple caught many unaware after they announced their resignation from royal duties as senior royals. The couple claimed taking the move so as to get freedom from vigorous and never ending scrutiny by the media and public at large.

Following their withdrawal, the couple is no longer considered senior members of the British royal family meaning they are no longer entitled to public funded state security services which runs into millions.
