A Fan May Have Helped Kim Kardashian Rename her Shapewear Company to This

After receiving major backlash for naming her shapewear company Kimono, Kim Kardashian has changed the name.

The reality television star has renamed her new line to Skims and it is expected to launch on September 10th.

The previous name of Kimono had drawn accusations of cultural appropriation. #KimOhNo began trending on Twitter after she had announced that name.

At the time Kim, who is married to Kanye West, tweeted, “I am always listening, learning and growing — I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind.”

Kim tweeted on Monday, “My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name. After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear™”

She also tweeted, “SKIMS Solutionwear™ is coming September 10. I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies.”

Mélyssa Rodrigues, who is @yeekylizzle on Twitter, responded to Kardashian West’s announcement and said,”I truly believe it was my tweet that caught her attention since I didn’t see anyone with the same idea before me or with more likes or retweets than me plus I gave all the explanations behind this name and what inspired me. Neither did Kim or someone from her team contacted me about my suggestion though, so I’m still not sure.”

Rodrigues had suggested the name Skim with the tweet, “u should rename your brand SKIM: skin (cause the shapewear are made to fit your skin) + ur name Kim.”

“I’m just a huge fan of her, I love her work, the way she turns her life into a huge business, also love her ideas and everything else and wanted to help her with her new project with pleasure. I’m just so happy she took my idea and wish her a lot of success with her new brand which is really cool regarding the large range of sizes and colors,” Rodrigues also said.
