Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Finally Owns Amazon Shares

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway now owns Amazon shares, and a lot of them according to a filing with the SEC.

The firm has revealed that it has around $900 million in Amazon shares equaling to 483,300 shares at the end of the quarter ended March 31st.

It was on May 2nd that Warren Buffett disclosed on CNBC that the firm had invested into Amazon and he made sure to point out that he was not the person behind the investment.

“One of the fellows in the office that manage money … bought some Amazon, so it will show up in the 13F,” Buffett said then. He was referring to his two lieutenants, Todd Combs or Ted Weschler, who each manage portfolios of more than $13 billion in equities for Berkshire.

“Yeah, I’ve been a fan, and I’ve been an idiot for not buying” Amazon shares, Buffett said at the time. “But I want you to know it’s no personality changes taking place.”

Earlier this week Amazon announced that it would contribute as much as $10,000 if employees want to leave the company and form new U.S. start-ups centered on delivering packages. The e-commerce giant said it would also pay these people the equivalent of three months of their most recent gross salaries when they were working for the company.

“We want people working at Amazon who want to be here,” an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC’s Make It in 2018.
