Walmart is Suing Former Chief Tax Officer For This Reason

Retail giant Walmart is suing its former chief tax officer, Lisa Wadlin, for violating her employment contract.

Wadlin, who is also the company’s senior vice president as well as top tax executive, violated the contract by leaving the company for rival Amazon to become one of its senior tax executives.

Walmart officials said in the lawsuit on Wednesday, that Wadlin had wrongfully left the Arkansas-based chain last month to move to Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle.

“Wadlin’s pursuit of employment with Amazon eviscerates the contractual terms Walmart bargained for’’ in her employment agreement, said Walmart’s lawyers in the Delaware Chancery Court lawsuit.

Walmart said it was seeking to protect its rights to lawfully restrict “senior employee’s ability to work for its direct competitor.’’
