Walmart Could Be Taking on Netflix and Amazon With This

Retailer Walmart is reportedly considering launching a video streaming service that would rival Netflix and Amazon.

According to The Information, which cited anonymous sources, the retailer is considering the service at a cost of less than $8 a month and is even considering a free version that would have ads.

Walmart owns Vudu which is a video-on-demand platform for Hollywood movies and TV.

The Information report said that the company is interested in shows for viewers in middle America, whom Walmart believes aren’t being served by the incumbent services and their focus on coastal audiences.

The service would be cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon if it becomes a reality.
Walmart did not comment on the article.

Walmart shares closed up 0.63% on Tuesday.
