Uber Is Being Sued By Google’s Waymo Over A Botched E-mail
Google-parent Alphabet’s self-driving company Waymo, is suing Uber over an email exchange that showed a “striking resemblance” between the company’s self driving car designs.
According to a lawsuit filed in San Francisco court on Thursday, Waymo engineers were “apparently inadvertently” copied on an email from a company providing components for Uber’s self-driving car project that allegedly revealed drawings of Uber’s technology.
The lawsuit alleges that engineer Anthony Levandowsky took “extraordinary efforts to raid Waymo’s design server and then conceal his activities.” It also states that he “downloaded more than 14,000 highly confidential and proprietary files shortly before his resignation.”
Levandowsky left Google and launched Otto, a self-driving truck company that was acquired by Uber.
“We take the allegations made against Otto and Uber employees seriously and we will review this matter carefully,” an Uber spokeswoman told CNBC.
