Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey Met Privately with President Donald Trump

On Tuesday, Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter and Square, met with the president in his Oval Office for a private 30 minute discussion.

According to a source who spoke to the Washington Post, a good part of the meeting which was held behind closed doors, had to do with the president’s concern over losing followers.

The Twitter CEO explained that follower counts fluctuate as the company weeds out spam accounts.

President Trump had said that Twitter is “playing political games” and discriminating against him and other Republicans.

Twitter stated, “Twitter’s commitment to protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections and efforts underway to respond to the opioid crisis.”

It was in March that President Trump said, “Social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook have “hatred… for a certain group of people that happen to be in power, that happen to have won the election.”

Trump tweeted a respose on Tuesday, ““The best thing ever to happen to Twitter is Donald Trump.”
@MariaBartiromo So true, but they don’t treat me well as a Republican. Very discriminatory, hard for people to sign on. Constantly taking people off list. Big complaints from many people. Different names-over 100 M…..”
In another tweet he said, “….But should be much higher than that if Twitter wasn’t playing their political games. No wonder Congress wants to get involved – and they should. Must be more, and fairer, companies to get out the WORD!”

In other news, Twitter reported earnings this week for the first quarter and beat on both the top and bottom line.

The company reported revenue of $786.9 million beating the $775 million expected. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 37 cents, way ahead of the 15 cents per share expected.

Monetizable daily active users saw a growth of 11% over last year to 134 million.
