Twitter Has Permanently Banned Alex Jones and Infowars
Twitter said in a series of tweets that the accounts of Alex Jones and Infowars have been permanently banned from the platform, citing that the accounts violate Twitter’s abusive behavior policies.
It was just a few weeks ago that Jones, a right-wing conspiracy theorist and radio host, had been banned by other tech companies such as Facebook, YouTube, and Apple.
Jones and a CNN reporter had an argument on Wednesday, which Jones live-streamed on Periscope. which is owned by Twitter. In the video, Jones ranted at the reporter, as well as Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, following back-to-back congressional hearings where Dorsey testified before the Senate.
“We took this action based on new reports of Tweets and videos posted yesterday that violate our abusive behavior policy, in addition to the accounts’ past violations,” Twitter said in a series of tweets. “We wanted to be open about this action given the broad interest in this case.”
Twitter tweeted, “As we continue to increase transparency around our rules and enforcement actions, we wanted to be open about this action given the broad interest in this case. We do not typically comment on enforcement actions we take against individual accounts, for their privacy.”
In another tweet, the company said, “We will continue to evaluate reports we receive regarding other accounts potentially associated with @realalexjones or @infowars and will take action if content that violates our rules is reported or if other accounts are utilized in an attempt to circumvent their ban.”
Jones has also been banned from Periscope.
