Piper Jaffray has revealed in a survey just how much teenagers are watching Netflix and emerging themselves in digital content as well as playing video games.

According to the survey of 8,500 teenagers, 83% of them own a current generation console or expect to buy one. This is compared to 80% this past spring. Spending on video games has also jumped 13% from spring to 14% now.

“It appears male teens spend almost as much on video games (and consoles) as they do on basic elements required for survival,” wrote the author of the report, Michael Olson.

If it isn’t video games, it’s netflix teenagers are spending time doing. The survey found that Netflix was the most popular video platform among teens, coming in ahead of YouTube, Hulu, Amazon, and cable TV.

On average, teens said they use Netflix for 38% of their daily video consumption. This is a 1% drop from this past spring.

Olson wrote, “Netflix is the leader in a category that contains massive multiyear growth potential as more content viewing shifts online.”

Piper Jaffray’s rating on Netflix is “buy” with a $430 price target.
