Tesla is Considering Building its Next Factory Here
Electric vehicle maker Tesla has just re-opened its California factory despite warnings not to, and now the company may be setting up a new factory in another city soon.
Tesla is considering building its next factory in Austin, Texas or Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Both cities are attractive as they are centrally located in the U.S., making it easier to deliver to the East Coast.
Representatives for the company visited two locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to see if they would be the right place for the company’s fifth Gigafactory. Another possible location for Tesla’s next plant is Austin, Texas, said a source familiar with the situation to CNBC.
According to a previous Electrek report, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had decided the next Gigafactory will be in Austin, citing unnamed sources.
The people familiar with the project said that Musk has tasked the engineering team working at Gigafactory Nevada to start the process for the new factory.
This new factory is expected to make the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup truck and the Model Y. According to the sources, Musk reportedly wants to move extremely fast.
Sources told Electrek that Musk is said to want to start construction extremely soon and aims to have Model Y vehicles coming out of the plant by the end of the year.
Tesla may also be evaluating other locations around the country.
