Tesla Files for Trademark of “Teslaquila”
What started as an April Fool’s joke earlier this year by electric vehicle maker Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk may be turning into something serious.
Tesla has filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the word “Teslaquila,” the first federal trademark application for the company this year.
It had been back in April that Musk teased a Tesla-branded tequila earlier this year as part of an April Fool’s joke on Instagram.
It was in April that Musk said on Twitter that Tesla was going bankrupt and that he had been found “passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by ‘Teslaquila’ bottles.”
A picture showed up on Instagram a few days later of a tequila bottle that had a “Teslaquila” label.
The trademark is for “distilled agave liquor” and “distilled blue agave liquor.”
