Tesla Aims to do Solar Roof Testing at its Fremont Plant
Wall Street learned recently that electric vehicle making giant Tesla is planning to do solar roof testing at its Fremont car plant in California.
This is according to building permits that revealed the company’s plans. A building permit issued to Tesla last month reads that the company is planning to build “a test structure to evaluate Tesla solar roof product and installation process” at the site of its Fremont car plant.
The company’s Chief Executive Elon Musk has also recently tweeted that he hopes the company will be able to produce about 1,000 solar rooftops a week by the end of the year.
The first time CEO Elon Musk revealef the idea for the roof was back in October of 2016 at a joint event with Tesla and SolarCity, a company Tesla bought for $2.6 billion that year.
Musk at the time said that the roof covered with solar power generating roof tiles would look something like premium architectural shingles.
It was on Monday that Musk tweeted, “Spooling up production line rapidly. Hoping to manufacture ~1000 solar roofs/week by end of this year.”
User @DMC_Ryan had asked Musk, “How’s solar roof tile progress going? You were working on a new version (V3?) of that, right?
Many wondered if Musk was allowed to tweet what he did as he has a settlement with the SEC where he is required to have the company pre-approve any tweets that could materially impact the electric vehicle and clean energy company.
It was then on Thursday that Musk posted a tweet that said “fate loves irony.” The last time Musk wrote such a sentence was in February when the SEC filed a motion against him.
