Snapchat is Trying Camera Glasses.. Again
Snapchat has launched new Spectacles V2 camera glasses despite the fact that the first version wasn’t that successful.
Snap said it sold over 220,000 units of the first version but had to take an almost $40 million write-down during the third quarter because they had too many in inventory.
Snapchat’s vice president of hardware, Mark Randall, said that the company “listened to our customers and our community and incorporated every part of their feedback.”
The new version comes with a price tag that’s $20 more than the first version at $150. The colors available are onyx, ruby, and sapphire. The glasses are also water resistant and can take photos and videos in high-def. The new version also allows content to be uploaded to a user’s phone and to be shared on Shapchat faster than the older version.
“We think the colors are a little more approachable, we got rid of the yellow ring in the front,” Randall remarked. “You’re much more likely to use them as your primary sunglasses. If you do, you’re likely to Snap more and use more great content.” Consumers can also buy the glasses with a prescription and polarized lenses.
