Salesforce Has Decided to Ban Companies That Sell Certain Firearms
There’s one company making a stand against gun violence and that’s Salesforce.
The software company has updated its policy to ban companies that sell certain types of firearms from using its products.
CEO Marc Benioff has been pretty outspoken on how he feels about gun control and in 2018 had tweeted, “The AR-15 is the most popular rifle in America. Ban it.”
A Salesforce spokesperson confirmed the change to CNBC after a Washington Post report revealed the news.
The company’s policy was updated in early April to bar customers that sell a range of firearms, including automatic
and certain semi-automatic firearms, 3D printed guns and even blueprints for such guns.
“After carefully reviewing similar policies in the industry and discussing with internal and external stakeholders, we updated our policy,” the spokesperson said. “The change affects new customers and a small number of existing customers when their current contracts expire.”
It was not too long ago that Salesforce said it hired a chief ethical and humane use officer, Paula Goldman, to “develop a strategic framework for the ethical and humane use of technology across Salesforce.”
Other companies have also made similar moves when it comes to gun, such as Amazon and eBay, who have banned the sale of firearms on their platforms.
