Kroger Names First Ocado Customer Fulfillment Center
A suburb outside of Cincinnati is the lucky winner to become the first city in the United States chosen by Kroger to open an Ocado automated warehouse.
Monroe, Ohio, will become the home of Kroger’s first 335,000 square feet Ocado customer fulfillment center. Kroger has invested a whopping $55 billion to building the location and it is expected to generate over 400 new jobs.
It was last May that the company reached a deal with Ocado, A British online grocer, to construct 20 robotically operated warehouses.
Kroger expects to build roughly 20 robotically operated warehouses which take typically about two years to open.
“Kroger is joining with the best partners in the world to co-innovate and leverage technology to redefine the customer experience,” said Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s chairman and CEO.
“We are incredibly excited to partner with Ocado to transform the industry and deliver on our Restock Kroger vision to serve America through food inspiration and uplift. This Kroger shed, powered by Ocado, will accelerate our ability to provide customers with anything, anytime and anywhere.”
