\All eyes were on MacKenzie Bezos earlier this year when it was announced that in her divorce settlement with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, that she would be walking away with $36.6 billion.

Now eyes are on her again as it was recently learned that the current 22nd richest person in the world, has decided to donate at least half of the fortune to charity.

MacKenzie signed the Giving Pledge, an initiative founded in 2010 by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett. The pledge encourages that the world’s wealthiest people to donate more than half of their wealth to charitable causes.
“There are lots of resources each of us can pull from our safes to share with others,” MacKenzie said in a letter on the pledge’s website.

“In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share,” MacKenzie Bezos added. “My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”

Last month there was no indication what she would be doing with the money and she had only said, “Excited about my own plans.”

“We each come by the gifts we have to offer by an infinite series of influences and lucky breaks we can never fully understand,” she said in a letter supporting the pledge. “In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”

The Financial Times has remarked that, “Mr. Bezos, the world’s richest man, is notably absent from the list.”
