Google to Fight Smartphone Addiction in its Next Android Update
Google is paying attention to the growing number of people becoming addicted to their smart phones and is trying to do something about it.
The company’s next version of its Android phone will have new “digital wellness” features.
The Android P, will allow users to see how long they have used an app and even allow the user to block themselves from using it after a pre-set timer expires.
At the company’s developer conference, Google discussed the new functions in the next version of the Android.
The company said there will be four new functions to arrive this fall. They are an “app dashboard,” an “app timer,” a new “do not disturb mode” and a “wind down” feature.
The app dashboard will give users an idea of how they use their phone. Which apps are used the most may help users dwindle their time on them.
The App Timer will allow users to set a time limit for their daily usage on the app.
The Do Not Disturb feature will take out all visual indicators about alerts or new messages while the Wind Down feature will block out blue light at bedtime.
