Google is Raising the Price of YouTube TV for New Customers

New customers may not be happy to learn that YouTube TV will cost more for them compared to older customers of the service.

As google adds channels from Time Warner Inc.’s Turner, National Basketball League, and Major League Baseball, the price of YouTube TV online service will go up.

The company made the announcement on Wednesday and said that it would be increasing the price to $40 per month from $3 per month. It’s heen less than a year since Google launched the service. The new added channels will include CNN, TBS, and TNT as well as the MLB Network and NBA TV.

Heather Moosnick, the director of content partnerships, YouTube TV has said that Google is betting that its strong sports offering will help win over more subscribers.

She remarked, “Sports is really one of the key offerings that a millennial would be willing to pay for a live TV service.”

The company now has 96% of its YouTube TV ads on television happening during sports programming.

According to Moosnick, the new additions will mean that YouTube TV will have almost 60 channels, and be in 100 markets.

The new pricing takes effect for new users who sign up after March 13th.
