Fast Food Giant McDonald’s to Keep Dozens of Items off Menu for Awhile

According to a Wall Street Journal report, McDonald’s is bringing back seven menu items that had been cut next mont but will keep dozens still off the menu for the foreseeable future.

Company executives told franchisees that dozens of other menu items, like salads and yogurt parfaits, will stay off the menu for the foreseeable future, said the WSJ report.

Other items to stay off the menu include vanilla cones, chocolate chip cookies, the Bacon McDouble, and two variations of the Quarter Pounder.

WSJ first reported the chain’s Wednesday webcast with U.S. franchisees about the menu.

“Now, we’re reintroducing some of our iconic offerings while keeping our menu streamlined – focusing on expert preparation, great service, and as always, quality ingredients,” McDonald’s USA said in a statement. “With customers at the center of everything we do, we’ll continue listening to them and evolving our menu to meet their needs.”

McDonald’s had removed many items in April to fill drive-thru orders quickly and provide better service as the coronavirus lockdown kept restaurant doors closed.

The fast food company announced on Friday that it is expecting to hire approximately 260,000 restaurant employees in the U.S. this summer. McDonald’s has implemented nearly 50 new safety procedures to protect crew and customers.

“We are excited to welcome new employees to our McFamily, and we want candidates and their families to know we have one goal – to keep our people safe. We’ve put new minimum national standards and nearly 50 new processes in place in our restaurants as they continue to re-open safely and judiciously,” said Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA. “Our local business owners are proud to help their communities and provide employment and educational opportunities to hundreds of thousands of people this summer.”
