Facebook Will Let Most of its Employees Work From Home All Year

With the coronavirus pandemic still going on and many companies concerned about social distancing, Facebook has decided to allow most of its workers to work from home through the end of the year.

A Facebook spokeswoman confirmed the move to CNBC this week and said that the company would begin to open most of its offices on July 6, allowing employees who need to come in for their jobs to do so.

According to the spokeswoman, Facebook is still determining which employees will be asked to come in. Employees have been working from home since March, and the company said it would continue to pay hourly employees who may not be able to work due to reduced staffing, office closures, or if they’re sick.

It was in April that Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said that most of the company’s employees could do their jobs remotely.

Facebook additionally has announced that it will not hold any gatherings with over 50 people until at least July 2021. Instead the company will be holding virtual versions of some of its events over the next year.

“When society does eventually start re-opening, it will have to open slowly in staggered waves to make sure that the people who are returning to work can do so safely and that we minimize the possibility of future outbreaks,” Zuckerberg said last month.

He also said, “We know that most people can’t work from home as easily as many of our employees can. We also know that when society does eventually start re-opening, it will have to open slowly in staggered waves to make sure that the people who are returning to work can do so safely and that we minimize the possibility of future outbreaks.”
