Facebook Shared User Data With This Many Device Makers
Facebook has been under heavy scrutiny for not protecting the privacy of its members this year after the Cambridge Analytica scandal came to light.
According to the New York Times, the social media giant has shared user data with “nearly 60” device makers in deals that have lasted for several years.
According to the report, Facebook had allowed companies that include Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, access to customer information.
Facebook had said that the sort of data sharing given to Cambridge Analytica was cut off by 2015, but hardware makers were exempted. The company has assured that there was “strictly limited use of the data”, and that “they knew of no cases where the information had been misused”.
