Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Have 1 Million of These Next Year on the Streets
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is known for making bold announcements and this week he had another one.
Musk has claimed that the electric vehicle maker will have a million robotaxis on the roads in 2020.
He made the announcement at Autonomy Investor Day on Monday and said he is “very confident” Tesla would be able to offer robotaxis next year.
He also claimed that the company would be making cars with no steering wheels or pedals in two years.
“I feel very confident predicting autonomous robotaxis for Tesla next year,” Musk said.
He did however note that they would not be “in all jurisdictions, because we won’t have regulatory approval everywhere, but I am confident we will have at least regulatory approval somewhere, literally next year.”
“All Tesla cars being produced right now have everything necessary for full self-driving. All you have to do is improve the software,” he said.
He also reminded everyone that sometimes his predictions can come with delays. , “Sometimes I am not on time, but I get it done,” he stated.
Deliveries of Tesla’s vehicles came in at 63,000 for the first quarter, missing the 77,100 that analysts were expecting.
Shares of Tesla were down around 4% on the company’s “Autonomy Day.”
