Elon Musk Just Raised Tesla’s Model 3 Goals

Tesla shares saw gains in after-hours trading on Tuesday after it was revealed that the company’s CEO has raised its Model 3 Goals in internal email.

According to electric vehicle blog Electrek, who obtained an email from Elon Musk, the CEO of the electric vehicle maker, the company is halting production at its two main factories for several days in order to upgrade equipment. Tesla is now aiming to produce 6,000 Model 3 cars a week by the end of June.

The email, which CNBC has confirmed, was sent to all employees and stated that Tesla had built 2,250 cars last week which was short of the company’s goal of 2,500 a week by the end of the first quarter. The email also said that the shut down would help the company build 3,000 to 4,000 vehicles a week next month.

The email stated, “Some parts suppliers will be unwilling or unable to achieve this level of precision. I understand that this will be considered an unreasonable request by some. That’s ok, there are lots of other car companies with much lower standards. They just can’t work with Tesla.”

As for contractors, the email said, “Any that fail to meet the Tesla standard of excellence will have their contracts ended on Monday.”
