Beauty and the Beast also is now the top opning of all time for a PG film internationally too.
The movie also beat out the final Harry Potter movie ($169.2 million) to rank No. 7 on the top 10 list of biggest bows in North America. Ironic, as Emma Watson who stars as Belle was also in the Harry Potter movie.
The film also earned the biggest debut of all time for a female-fueled film. On Friday, more than 70 percent of ticket buyers were females.
Beauty and the Beast is based on Disney’s 1991 classic animated musical and was directed by Bill Condon. It stars British actress Emma Watson as Belle, with Dan Stevens as the Beast. The cast also includes Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson.
Disney has even set a new record for itself with the film, as it now is the biggest live action event film based on a classic.
