Coca Cola Could be in Talks with a Marijuana Company
There’s no doubt that marijuana beverages are a hot topic right now.
Constellation Brands (STZ), the maker of Corona beer, Svedka vodka and Casa Noble tequila, announced in August that it is investing an additional $4 billion in the Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth.
Other beverage companies have been also rumored to be in talks and it looks like Coca Cola is one of them.
According to a Bloomberg report, beverage giant Coca-Cola is “closely watching” the market for drinks that infused with cannabidiol (CBD).
“Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” Coca-Cola said in a statement on Monday.
According to the company, the space for cannabidiol-based drinks is “evolving quickly.”
Coca Cola did make sure to state that, “No decisions have been made at this time.”
The Bloomberg report said that the company was allegedly in “serious talks” with Aurora Cannabis, a marijuana company in Canada, to develop cannabis-related beverages.
Auruora Cannabis spokeswoman Heather MacGregor told the business network that although it wants to enter the infused beverage industry, it does “not discuss business development initiatives until they are finalized.”
“There is so much happening in this area right now and we think it has incredible potential,” said MacGregor. “Stories like this are further validation of the massive global potential of the cannabis industry.”
