Chipotle Has Revealed the Cause of Why Some Patrons Became Sick

Burrito retail restaurant chain Chipotle confimed this week the cause of the food-borne illness that made patrons at one of its Ohio locations sick.

The company said that tests had confirmed that bacteria is what caused the recent outbreak of illness at the restaurant which made hundreds of people ill.

According to tests from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it was clostridium perfringens that was responsible.
T
he CDC says that Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) is a spore-forming gram-positive bacterium that is found in many environmental sources as well as in the intestines of humans and animals. C. perfringens is commonly found on raw meat and poultry.

The bacteria is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the U.S. and forms when food is left out at unsafe temperatures.

There were 647 people who had said they had suffered gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at the Chipotle Ohio restaurant located on Sawmill Parkway between July 26 and July 30.

It wasn’t too long ago that Chipotle suffered bad backlash after an E. coli outbreak that occurred in 2015, making hundreds of its customers sick.

Former Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol is in charge of the company now, a position he took back in February, and is trying to turn the company around.

Niccol has said that Chipotle will start retraining all restaurant employees on food safety and wellness protocols next week.
