BlackBerry is Suing Snap Over Patent Infringement
BlackBerry has been busy trying to protect its patents. Not only has the company filed a patent lawsuit against Facebook but also against Snap for patent infringement.
The Canadian based company is suing Snap for infringing on six of its patents that were issued between the years of 2012 and 2014. Two of the patents are also in the complaint against Facebook.
Mashable reported that in court documents, the infringement claims affect Snap Map and the app’s messaging technology. BlackBerry is accusing Snap of copying the tech that it uses for BBM.
According to BlackBerry, they are the ones who invented the core aspects of modern messaging.
A BlackBerry spokesperson told Mashable, “BlackBerry has a well-earned reputation for protecting and securing our customers’ data and privacy. For more than a year we have been working to establish a dialogue with Snap as we believe there are far more opportunities for partnership than disagreement. While we continue to hold this door open, we also have a strong claim that Snap infringed on our intellectual property, harmed our shareholders, and we have an obligation to pursue appropriate legal remedies.”
