BlackBerry (BBRY) Just Announced Some Huge Plans
According to Reuters who reported on Monday, BlackBerry will spend about 100 million Canadian dollars, which is about $75 million) on a new autonomous driving facility in Ottawa-area Canada that would create 650 jobs over the next few years.
John Chen, the company’s CEO, said that the center will be called the Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Centre and the company will focus on applying its expertise in cybersecurity to self-driving vehicles.
“Most of all the money will go to jobs,” John Chen told reporters at an event opening the Ottawa-area facility.
According to Chen, BlackBerry may hire over several years as many as 650 engineers, each earning about 150,000 Canadian dollars annually.
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated, “This center will create great middle-class jobs for Canadians, new opportunities for recent university graduates and further position Canada as a global hub for innovation.”
