Apple’s CEO Tim Cook Thinks People Should Be Able to Delete their Data “On Demand”

According to the head of tech giant Apple, Tim Cook, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission should form what he called a “data-broker clearinghouse.”

The CEO is calling on U.S. Congress to pass “comprehensive federal privacy legislation.”

He believes that the FTC should implement a new framework which increases transparency around companies that handle user data and will allow people to track and delete information on them “on demand.”

The iPhone leader’s ideas were featured in a Time magazine op-ped that was published this week.

“We believe the Federal Trade Commission should establish a data-broker clearinghouse, requiring all data brokers to register, enabling consumers to track the transactions that have bundled and sold their data from place to place, and giving users the power to delete their data on demand, freely, easily and online, once and for all,” Cook is stated saying in the article.

He adds, “Technology has the potential to keep changing the world for the better, but it will never achieve that potential without the full faith and confidence of the people who use it.”
